Established
in 1963, Kradwell School is a private, nontraditional,
nonsectarian fifth through twelfth grade Program. Kradwell
School specializes in students who are unsuccessful in the
traditional school environment. Students attending Kradwell
include students with learning and behavioral disabilities
including Dyslexia, A.D.D., A.D.H.D, Anxiety Disorders, Bi-Polar
Disorder and Depression. Also served are students termed "At
Risk" of not graduating. Though unsuccessful in the traditional
school, many of our students are in fact gifted and talented.
Kradwell offers a full-day or half-day programming for middle school
students. The high school is a half-day program, either A.M. or P.M.
Individualized Instruction is the teaching method
employed at Kradwell. The student/teacher ratio is 5 to 1.
Individualized instruction and the small student to teacher ratio
allow our high school students to earn the same credit as students in
the traditional school setting. Progress reports (report cards) are
issued every six weeks. Unique to our program are weekly progress
notes. Progress reports and notes are mailed directly to parents and
others if requested by the parents.
Philosophy
We believe that students who choose to
attend our nontraditional school benefit from our highly structured,
individualized plan for their academic, emotional and behavioral growth.
Enrollment
The Kradwell School program is designed
to meet a variety of educational and behavioral needs. Enrollment is
often precipitated by failure to succeed in the traditional school
setting or other crisis situations. As a result, enrollment occurs
throughout the school year.
The enrollment process involves a meeting
including the student, parents, Kradwell Principal or Program
Coordinator. At this meeting our program is described, policies are
discussed, questions answered and a tour is given. If all concerned
agree that the Kradwell Program will meet the child’s needs, the child
is accepted into our school Program.
Parental involvement
An integral part of our program is
parental involvement. When the student is enrolled in our program,
the parents are asked to contact with us whenever there are issues
outside of school that may impact school behavior or performance, so
that we are better able to deal with any evidences of the issues at
school. The assistant principal serves as the direct contact for
parents. Parents are contacted if serious problems arise, be they
disciplinary or unexcused absence. Parents are called within one
hour of starting time if students are not present. Minor problems
are resolved via techniques designed involve the student in problem
resolution.
Location
Kradwell School is located on a
